Limor Livnat served as a member of the Israeli Knesset for 23 years. For 14 years during that period, she also served at Minister of Culture and Sports, Minister of Education and Minister of Communications.
After retiring from political life, she agreed to the request of the previous Chairman of the Board of Directors, M.K. Avraham Dichter, to serve as the head of the Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel on a voluntary basis.
Ms. Livnat was born in Haifa and raised in Ramat Gan. She is a seventh-generation Israeli, descended from an old Jerusalem family on her father’s side. Most of the members of the family of her maternal grandmother, Shulamit, perished in the Holocaust, in Sniatyn and in Kolomyia, Galicia. The history of those family members was documented in the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation project of the filmmaker, Steven Spielberg. Her parents were prominently active in the underground organizations that fought for the establishment of the State of Israel.
