The Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel

Who are we

The Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel was established in 1994 by the Center of Holocaust Survivor Organizations in Israel with the coopeartion of the Claims Conference (which provide the majority of the funding), to help needy Holocaust survivors who have been unable to recover, and who today at an advanced age are unable to care for themselves. The Foundation's work is directed by a public board of survivors: volunteers who were able to make new lives for themselves. The volunteer Board, chaired by founder Wolf Factor, represent various Holocaust survivor organizations. The Foundation has fifty employees, and its CEO is Mr. Yehoshua De-Goffer .The Foundation is audited regularly by the auditors of the financing bodies:the Claims Conference and the Ministry of Finance. It is also under the supervision of the Registrar of Societies and the tax authorities.

In addition to supplementing the basic services provided by the government of Israel, the Foundation runs programs to keep the plight of needy survivors in the forefront ofthe public agenda.

There are about 210,000 Holocaust survivors currently living in Israel: 25% are economically needy. Some of these survivors suffer from problems that are a direct consequence of the Holocaust. Even though many of their physical problems are common to an ageing population, they are more afflicted than the rest of the similar-aged population.

In addition, because of the extraordinary disruption of their lives as young adults, and to their families, this special population has unique problems of: mental distress, loneliness lack of adequate family and social support networks
